Tempest frames are made of “pultruded” fiberglass and are composed of up to 65-70% glass content. Glass fibers are pulled through a multi-stage die while binding resins are added. The fibers are carefully arranged and then heated. When cured, Tempestglass is pound-for-pound stronger than steel.
Temperature extremes cause materials such as steel, aluminum and vinyl to contract and expand, racking frames and making them difficult to operate. Steel rusts and bows, causing air and water leakage. Wood swells, shrinks and warps so windows won’t close properly. Tempestglass has an expansion and contraction rate as low as the panes of the insulated glass. It will not rack, bow or warp, virtually eliminating glass breakage and seal failure due to thermal movement.
Tempestglass windows resist deterioration even in high salt or other harsh environments. Fiberglass is the material boat builders use for the very reason. Tempestglass will not rust, pit or corrode over time as will steel and aluminum. Tempestglass is impermeable. It will not wick water into the grain or split as will wood; nor will it become brittle and crack, as will vinyl. The gaskets are easily replaceable. Tempest sash can never become “out of square” because fixed and operable sash are structurally glazed at the factory. Well-engineered durability ensures the smooth functioning of Tempest windows for decades to come.
State-of-the-art continuous gasket seals providing the highest resistance to air leakage and water penetration possible. This air tightness combined with insulated glazing provides sound deadening characteristics twice as effective as those of old single-glass steel casement windows and thermal efficiency three times that of its historic counterparts. The results are substantial energy savings, excellent condensation resistance and a far better comfort level than with wood, steel or aluminum |
