Tempest aluminum windows are made differently than most other windows. Instead of one single extrusion, frame members are two separate extrusions with a rigid vinyl insulating connector in between to act as a thermal barrier. The inside and outside parts of the frame section are painted or anodized separately from one another to allow mixing and matching of finish colors and methods. Tempest stocks aluminum extrusions in four exterior colors and four interior colors to provide a variety of combinations at no additional cost. Tempest insulating connectors are more thermally and structurally efficient when compared to European “strip” thermal barriers. They fully enclose one or more air spaces. These insulating connectors do not have the shrinking and cracking problems associated with some of the poured-in-place solid polyurethane type thermal barrier systems. Tempest windows designs have more aluminum by weight than other windows of comparable size. Their superior hardware and more effective weather-stripping make them suitable for high rise as well as detached dwelling applications. Tempest windows have a quit elegance. Their minimal frame width and simple lines allow them to blend in with traditional, contemporary or landmarked surroundings. Tempest windows are fabricated with great care and precision. Tempest manufactures the only double hung window which has sash corners that are both punched-processed and milled to assure a proper, snug fit. Tempest windows are available with a wide variety of glass options. Coated, laminated, patterned, gas-filled airspaces, Heat Mirror TM and other high performance glass are all possible because there are few weight constraints on the double hung and casement/pivot windows. All Tempest insulated glass has a dual seal to ensure a long, condensation-free life. Tempest windows frames and mullions are designed to be the narrowest possible, enabling Tempest windows to have the maximum glass area for a given opening. Because of their narrow profiles, Tempest windows gracefully fit into existing conditions without the bulkiness typical of replacement windows. Tempest muntin grids will replicate the multi-paned look of historic double hung and casement windows. They come in a variety of standard colors and shapes with custom variations available at nominal charge. Muntins match both the outside and inside frame color. Tempest windows are available with fiberglass and aluminum mesh fly-screens where desired. The Casement/Pivot window can have an optional stainless steel limit opening stop and the double hung window a vinyl sash stop to limit sash opening (Both not intended to take the place of child guards.)
